Sights Unseen
11.9. - 15.10. 2025, Kavárna co hledá jméno
Anna Tyulpanova's work reveals a subtle yet persistent effort to see beyond what meets the eye. Her watercolors are visual diaries of her travels across countries, cultures, and everyday life, but they are never mere documentation. Instead of a precise map, they create space for memory, atmosphere, and feeling—for that quiet moment when the detail of an ordinary courtyard or window becomes the bearer of a story.
Tyulpanova finds "home" in watercolor—a medium that is both fragile and unpredictable. In its translucent layers, control intertwines with surrender, conscious gesture with the random flow of paint. Her paintings thus arise in dialogue: between hand and water, between imagination and the unknown.
The exhibition Sights Unseen refers to unseen views hidden in everyday life. It invites the viewer to slow down and listen to the silence of the images, to let themselves be guided by nostalgia or curiosity. It is not important where these places are located – they can be anywhere or nowhere. What is important is what they open up in us.
Tyulpanova's works convey intimacy, reflectiveness, and a nomadic spirit. They do not impose emotions, but rather gently awaken them. There is a weight in their silence – the weight of pause, reminding us that beauty is often hidden in the most ordinary things that we would otherwise overlook.

„A balcony shades the staircase, and warm air filters through a narrow black window. A streetlight pole is drawn over the arch of a portal where Tyulpanova has abandoned her childhood bicycle. There is undoubtedly a wandering and ecdotic vocation in these watercolors (with brief reminiscences of Romanticism, and roots in the crumbly Realism of old Courbet), inhabitants of a suggestive and depopulated everyday life. Her palette and dreamlike brush fill us with melancholy, that silent and solitary cardinal pleasure of time gone by. A huge surface of each painting is a nearly empty space, with no narrative effects, because Anna's work knows how to concentrate in a small Aleph that familiar perfume that summons and defines us. The balcony, the bike, the window are us. They are what we have been.“
